One Word Resolution

In my English class at school, my class made rocks with a one-word resolution on it. The point of a resolution rock is to put one word on the rock that you can apply to your life. On my kindness rock, I wrote the word strive on it. I wrote the word strive because of the saying strive for greatness. This saying means to me you shouldn’t make excuses, you should focus on your goals and be the best at what you do. This applies to me because I recently suffered an injury about a month ago. Now I am working my way back into basketball after having to sit out for so long. Now after making the one-word resolution whenever I am having struggles during my comeback, I can remember to strive for greatness and make no excuses.

Game vs. Catholic Central

Tonight is my first regular season basketball game vs. Catholic Central. My team and I have been practicing since November 2nd. We have had many good practices and a few good scrimmages. I think we all feel we are prepared for this game. Last year Catholic Central lost to Kenton Ridge. It was a very good game and it was a very close game too. That got Kenton Ridge off to a good start to their season. Hopefully this year we can do the same.

Golden State Warriors Drama

In the Golden State Warriors basketball game vs the Los Angeles Clippers, there was some controversy between two players on the warriors. Those two players are Kevin Durant and Draymond Green. The whole thing started when the game was tied with a few seconds left and instead of passing the ball to Durant Green pushed the ball up the court to shoot the winning shot. The players on the Warriors weren’t happy with that shot because they could have won instead of going into overtime. Durant and Green were arguing with each other and during the argument, Green said something about Durant’s upcoming free agency. Green was challenging Durant on whether or not he’ll stay at Golden State. Green was suspended one game by the Warriors for this incident. Many feel this is detrimental to the warriors. Even the Warriors coach Steve Kerr is quoted saying there is something physically and mentally wrong with the team right now.

Columbus Crew Playoff Game

The Columbus Crew has made it to the playoffs, and their first match is against D.C. United. This first game in the major league soccer playoffs was a one single game playoff to determine who would advance. The Crew ended up winning. This game was an exciting game to watch. D.C. United scored the first goal. They scored because a cross was played in and someone headed the bouncing ball into the goal. Then later on in the first half, the Crew scored. The goal was scored by a crew player named Frederico Higuain. At the half, the game was tied up. In the second half, neither team scored, therefore the game went to overtime. In overtime, the Crew scored first from another goal by Frederico Higuain. Then D.C. United ended up scoring which tied the game up again. Now that there were no more minutes in overtime, that meant the game was headed to a penalty shootout. This penalty shootout was one to remember because the Crew’s goalkeeper Zach Stephan made a few incredible saves. Stephan’s saves helped the Crew win the game in the penalty shootout. I look forward to watching the Crew’s next playoff game on Sunday.

Tournament Game vs Bellefontaine

My team was on a good roll going into the tournament. In the first round, we beat the Graham Falcons, a team full of goons. We ended up beating them 3-2 with our final goal scored in over time. Then our next game was Bellfountain, and sadly we lost to them. We should have ended up winning this game because we scored early on, but then Bellfountain scored to goals where they were offsides. Now I am a licensed referee, and these assistant referees blew the offsides call, and it was obvious they were offside. I try not to complain much about referees since I am one myself, but these guys were not in a good position at all and that caused them to miss the calls. Let me make this clear though, I am not blaming this game on the referees. My team had a few chances that we messed up. This was also a hard loss because it was my last time playing with my brother on the soccer field. It was a good season playing with him and I’ll remember this season.

Game vs Jonathan Alder

My team the Kenton Ridge Cougars were coming off of a two-game win streak going into this game. We were feeling pretty good about this game because we were confident. We had been playing some good soccer lately. The first goal we scored was scored off of a corner kick within the first ten minutes. We were pretty hyped after that, especially since a senior scored the goal and it was senior night. Then another senior scored a goal, and we got really hyped up again. Then about ten minutes later Jonathan Alder scored on us. The goal they scored was frustrating because we should have cleared the ball out. It was okay though because we ended up winning 2-1.

Troubles Refereeing

Tonight I was reffing a game, and I was one of two refs. There is supposed to be three refs in the game I was doing, but my brother and I were the only ones who signed up for the game. We had to get a parent to be on the other sideline since we only had two refs. During the game, my brother was in the center and I was on a line. The parent ref kept calling for offside, but since he was not a licensed referee he couldn’t call anything but out of bounds. My brother had to call fouls and offside, so he had two responsibilities. My brother did the best he could, and at halftime, the parent ref complained about how the other team was offsides. We told him he can’t call offsides because he’s not certified, but he kept complaining about that. Then he also told us that there was nothing we can do, he was just mad at the league organization. This guy was really talking out of both sides of his mouth.

Hello Sports Fans

In the sports world today, I will be talking about my soccer game. This game was so frustrating for many reasons. Our team was the better team by far. We were way more skilled than the other team, the possession was probably 85% to 15%, and we were bigger, faster, and stronger. The other team had the ball on our side of the field for probably two minutes out of 80 minutes. I was playing great, their strikers had no chance of winning a ball out of the air over me. Also, the shot count was probably 35 to 3 in my team’s favor. We ended up losing 1-0.
